What is New in Economic Development in
Brunswick:
- The Brunswick Local Redevelopment Authority (BLRA)
presented the final zoning plan for the base redevelopment process. They are
now known as the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority (MRRA).
- The Comprehensive Plan Committee is working to develop a revised
Comprehensive Plan for the Town of Brunswick
- BEDC announced adoption of Strategic Plan
- The Church
Rd. Business Park
is filled to capacity
- Over the past year the Maine Street Station
Implementation Committee has been working with JHR Developers to create
a final plan for the design and redevelop 4
acres of prime property in the downtown, adjacent to Bowdoin College
- The Brunswick Downtown Association and the
Five Rivers Arts Alliance
continue to coordinate the growth and expansion of the
creative economy in the downtown including the Second Friday Night Art Walks,
Family Arts Festival and Brunswick Outdoor Arts Festival.
Recently Completed Economic Development Projects:
- A new Super Wal-Mart and Lowes Center has been constructed in Cooks Corner.
- Shaws has constructed a new 67,000 square foot store in Merrymeeting Plaza
(Cooks Corner)
- Fairmont Hotels announced its grand opening in October, 2004

Brunswick Publishing completed its 35,000 square foot office/ production
building in the Brunswick Industrial Park
- The Town received a CDBG grant and
has
constructed a 10,000 square foot manufacturing facility in the Brunswick
Industrial Park for Harbor Technologies; Harbor constructs composite marine
components (wharves, docks, pilings)
- The BRAC 2005 task force report is released
